What’s the difference between RV campgrounds, RV parks, and RV resorts?
Posted on Feb 18, 2022
If you are about to embark on your next vacation, but you are unsure if you should make reservations for your RV rental at an RV park, an RV campground or an RV resort, here’s what you need to know.
Before hitting the road, you should take some time to learn a little bit about the various camping options available to you. While the world is your oyster when you reserve RV rentals in Orange County and take to the open road, you should make sure to plan ahead where you will park for the night. Simply put, you can go wherever you please whenever you please with an RV Rental and generally, you can stay as long as you wish, however, you cannot park your RV everywhere nor you can just come in and park. Some RV campgrounds will require booking a spot beforehand. So, besides renting your California RV rental you might also need to book your camping spot.
RV Campgrounds
RV campgrounds make up the most popular camping destinations in California for good reason. These places are generally owned by the state or federal government and are located on public land. Amenities often include the necessities – picnic tables, fire pits, and level parking pads. Some sites will have electric and water hook-ups, but there are usually cheaper primitive sites available as well. Many RV campgrounds will also offer tent camping options. While generally, the amenities in these places will be less than RV parks and RV resorts, the locations and natural beauty are often far and away from the best available.
RV Resorts
RV resorts are privately owned campgrounds that often boast a plethora of amenities to their visitors. These places are typically more glamorous than public campgrounds and include things like swimming pools and hot tubs, game rooms, community centers, nice public bathrooms with showers, public kitchens, general stores, and more. They tend to be more expensive than RV campgrounds, and you tend to be paying for comfort and convenience over ambiance and location.
RV Parks
While travelling in your Orange County RV rentals, you likely will not have to worry too much about RV parks. Similar to resorts, these places are privately owned and most often used by travellers looking to stay somewhere more permanently – such as snowbirds fleeing the colder winter climes of northern latitudes. That said, many RV parks will accept reservations for day or weekend campers and in that regard are more similar to RV resorts than campgrounds in terms of expense and amenities.
Don’t Forget to Consider Your RV Rental or Motorhome Class or Size
As you begin to plan your Orange County RV rental road trip and explore different places to camp, be sure to double-check any restrictions your desired campsites may have. It is not uncommon for campgrounds and resorts to have length restrictions on motorhomes, given the size and navigability of their space.
